The insects were discovered in mid-October in a garden north of Reykjavik, drawn to a red wine-soaked rope originally set out to trap moths. Scientists suspect their arrival may be tied to rising temperatures, increased global travel, or cargo shipments entering the country.
It's still uncertain whether these mosquitoes can endure Iceland's harsh winters and form a lasting population.
