Graça Machel is the only woman in modern history to have been married to two presidents and to have served as First Lady of two different countries. She first shared her life with Mozambique's President Samora Machel. When Samora tragically died in a 1986 plane crash, her world was shattered, but she stood tall.
Years later, destiny came calling again, this time in the form of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. With quiet courage, she opened her heart, and in marrying him, she once again became a First Lady, this time of South Africa.
